Art in the City

Whats going on during Art in the City....

Art in the City 2012

Welcome to Truro's fourth Art in the City' festival running from the 2nd until the 15th of April 2012

‘Art in the City' is Truro's annual visual arts festival that draws together arts based businesses in Truro. It is brought to you by Totally Truro, the organisation delivering Truro's Business Improvement District (BID). Events are co-ordinated in partnership with Event Cornwall and promoted by MPAD. The festival involves open spaces and galleries across the city of Truro. The purpose of the festival is to create a series of events that make art accessible to the community; that celebrate existing artists and galleries within Truro and that opens up opportunities for new artists; thereby attracting additional visitors to the city.

Totally Truro aims to encourage the accessibility of art for all, whether through the creation of art or as an observer, and this is reflected in the variety of events programmed into the annual festival. From ‘Big Art', which involves established and emerging artists creating giant canvases on Truro's streets before being exhibited and then auctioned off, to the ‘Art Car Boot' and from events in the city's galleries to an open art competition, we hope you will enjoy being a part of this year's ‘Art in the City' festival in Truro.

Festival events throughout the city

Guild of Ten

Piecing it Together

For this year's Art in the City, the Guild of Ten will be displaying a very special focus window featuring exquisite works by textile artist Christine Roxborough and painter and jewellery maker Nancy Pickard. Both artists piece together their work to make fascinating 'patchwork' creations: Christine makes sumptuous silk jackets and outfits for special occasions, Nancy makes enamelled silver necklaces and earrings, mixed media paintings and collages using of fragments of text and found objects.

The two combined are sure to give a highly decorative and textural feel to the display, but more than this, there is a special and sacred feeling to these timeless pieces.
