Coodes launch New Work support workshops

Cornwall's oldest law firm has become the latest company to sign up to back a scheme which supports people affected by redundancy or those employed and wishing to increase their future career prospects in the county.

Coodes Solicitors has agreed to offer support for the New Work Cornwall project.

The company will host a series of workshops at its Truro offices for employees whose jobs are under threat. The workshops will help people make the most of information, services and funding that are available to them through this project.

Beginning on Monday, August 9 Coodes will work alongside the New Work team to create a toolkit for employees so that they are aware of the employment opportunities in Cornwall, as well as receive the skills and support to access them."

Coodes head of employment, Emma Bramley, who will lead the workshops, said: "The country is now in a situation where the cuts the Government had made is going to have a huge impact on jobs within the public sector.
"It's also going to have a knock on effect across the private sector, especially for those businesses who rely on public sector contracts.
"I think we're going to find that a great deal of people are going to come under threat of redundancy.
"What's great about working with New Work and running these workshops is that we will be able to understand what these people are going through better, as well as give them advice on what they can do to move forward."

The scheme is sponsored by the Skills Funding Agency and managed by Design of the Times (Dott) Cornwall. Dott's project manager, Robert Woolf of Penryn-based SEA Communications, said: "We're delighted to have the support of Coodes, who are well respected within Cornwall.
"We are spending a lot of time getting the New Work programme right so that we can ensure success for the people we support, so to have expert legal help from Coodes is a massive boost for us.
"If people are concerned about their jobs and are interested in coming along to the workshops then they are free to get in touch.
"We're happy to run these workshops at any time of day or night."

Businesses signed up to support the project already include The West Briton, Origin Coffee, the St Moritz Hotel, The Cornish Oven, St Michael's Hotel and Spa, St Austell Brewery and Merlin Cinemas.
