Organisers are staging two gigs that will showcase local musicians who haven't got a record deal.
Cream of Cornish will focus on performers who are attracting national attention, while Cornwall Unsigned will give rising talent the chance to shine.
Claire Eason-Basset is co-director of Event Cornwall, which is organising this year's Music Truro on behalf of Totally Truro - the city's Business Improvement District.
She said: "The musicians we are booking have already got a strong following, so these nights are definitely going to be busy."
The gigs will be held on Wednesday, September 15 and Thursday, September 16.
Music Truro is taking place from Sunday, September 12 to Sunday, September 19.
Another highlight of the festival is the busking competition, where street entertainers will battle it out for the title of Truro's Best Busker on Saturday, September 18.
Buskers can be found on street corners around Truro's city centre from 9.30am - 3pm, with judging taking place from 10am - 1pm.
Some of the busking hot spots include Lemon Quay, Victoria Square, High Cross, Pydar Street and Union Place.
Neil Scott, from Totally Truro, said last year's winner - The Buskers of Wonderland - were something special: "They were a family busking trio consisting of a father and his two sons.
"It was great to see so many different types of street musicians taking part in the competition and we hope to see many more this year."
The Cornwall Music Industry Forum is one of the most well-attended events put on during Music Truro.
Musicians are given the opportunity to grill a panel of experts on how to get signed by a record company and tips on making in the industry.
This year's panel consists of Cornwall's acclaimed singer and songwriter, Ruarri Joseph; Rick Rogers, from DLR Management; Dare Mason, from Penzance-based VIP lounge and Lee Trewhela, from What's On Cornwall, as well as other industry experts.
It will be held at the Lander Gallery, upstairs at Lemon Street Market, from 6pm - 8pm.
There is no need to book a place, but slots will be limited, so arrive early to get a seat.
Neil said: "This year's line up of experts will give rising talent the chance to talk to musicians, journalists and music managers.
"It's a great opportunity to pick the brains of the people who know all there is to know about the industry."
Music Truro is a week long festival of events held from Sunday, September 12 to Sunday, September 19.
Dozens of events will be held at restaurants, galleries, bars and in the streets of the city.
Acoustic musicians, gigs, poetry and an outdoor sing along screening of the Sound of Music are just some of what's on offer.
Music Truro is being organised by Totally Truro, the city's Business Improvement District and Event Cornwall.
