Truro Cathedral Events during April Holy Week and Easter

Saturday 31March -14 April 10-5pm Easter Fun for Children and Families Enjoy a visit to the Cathedral with trails and different drop-in craft activities (All free).


Sunday 1 10am Palm Sunday Service A donkey carrying Jesus triumphantly into Jerusalem is not only the focus of this service but also foreshadows the dramatic events of the forthcoming week.


Sunday 1 6pm The St John Passion by J S Bach Join St Mary's Singers for this liturgical performance of one of the greatest choral works ever written. (Free with retiring collection)


Friday 6 10am The Good Friday Service The events of Good Friday unfold in this moving service of solemn music and intense drama, including the sung Passion gospel by Victoria and the Reproaches by Sanders.


Friday 6 12 noon The Three-Hour Devotion with Bishop Tim. ‘Looking at the Cross' a series of meditations on the Passion using a number of paintings. Please come and go as appropriate.


Friday 6 5.30pm Good Friday Evensong. A dignified, quiet service, with plainsong and music by Byrd and Lotti.


Sunday 8 5.30am The Dawn Service. A real treat for the early-birds! Experience an exciting dawn as we celebrate the coming of the new Light of Christ with the Plainsong music of the Missa de Angelis.


Sunday 8 10am The Easter Festival Service. The full drama of this day is played out in music and symbol at this service. The Choir sings Mozart's "Coronation" Mass together with anthems by Charles Wood and William Byrd. Bishop Tim to preach.


Sunday 8 From Noon Easter Day Lunch Delicious two (£13.50) or three (£15.50) course roast lunch in the Cathedral Restaurant. Must pre-book on 01872 245011.


Sunday 8 4pm Easter Day Evensong. The final service of the day, when music sung by the Cathedral Choir, will include the ‘Hallelujah Chorus' from Handel's ‘Messiah'.


Friday 13 1.10pm Free lunchtime organ recital given by Freddie Brown (Cambridge)


Saturday 14 7.30pm Cornwall Youth Orchestra Concert Tickets £6 (under 19s £1) on the door.


Monday 16 10-5pm A Photographic Exhibition by Cornwall's leading ‘environmental artist' and photographer Tony Plant. Until 30th. Free


Friday 20 7.30pm Celebratory Organ Recital Stephen Cleobury CBE is Organist and Director of Music at King's College, Cambridge for over a quarter of a century and has given recitals to packed houses throughout the world. Tickets on the door Adults £7, students £5 and under-18s Free


Saturday 21 1pm Cornwall Returners Orchestra Informal Concert


Friday 27 1.10pm Free lunchtime organ recital given by Julian Haggart (St Peter Mancroft, Norwich)


Saturday 28 7.30pm St Mary's Singers Concert with St Keverne Band. Tickets from Hall For Cornwall, 01872 262466.


Sunday 29 2pm A Service of Remembrance and Thanksgiving for Hospice and Nursing Services


Sunday 29 4pm Evensong to celebrate the 350th Anniversary of the Book of Common Prayer
