Over the past twenty years there has been a growing awareness, nationally and within Cornwall of dyslexia (SpLD) and the difficulties that this condition can cause when learning to read, write and spell. Dyslexia can also cause problems with short-term memory, numeracy, concentration and personal organisation.
The effects of dyslexia can be alleviated but dyslexia cannot be cured; it is not a disease. However, the effects can be largely overcome by skilled specialist teaching and the use of compensatory strategies.
Early recognition and intervention are the keys to success.
