About Totally Truro

The Business Improvement District

About Totally Truro

Enjoy Truro is one of the projects being brought to you by Totally Truro, the not-for-profit company that is delivering the city's Business Improvement District.

A Business Improvement District (BID) is a flexible funding mechanism to improve and manage a clearly defined commercial area. It is based on the principle of an additional levy on all defined ratepayers, following a majority vote. Following a successful vote, the levy becomes mandatory for all defined ratepayers.

The Truro BID is delivering a range of additional services and initiatives all designed to raise the profile of the city, attract more visitors and encourage them to explore all its facilities.

The BID is funded primarily through a nominal levy equivalent to 1% of rateable value on all properties that are within the District and have a rateable value of over £10,000. Truro's BID became operational in October 2007 and over its five year lifespan is expected to generate £1.5 million of additional funding. There are over 400 businesses in Truro that are included in the scheme.

Totally Truro staff

Totally Truro employs a BID Manager and a Marketing & Communication Officer whose roles are to deliver the projects outlined in the business plan and represent the interests of Truro's business community.

Neil was appointed as BID Manager for Totally Truro in October 2007. Representing the businesses of Truro and reporting to the board of directors, he is responsible for managing the delivery of the additional projects and initiatives that are contained in the Business Plan to improve the city for businesses, residents and visitors. Prior to taking up his position in Truro, Neil developed and managed one of the UK's first BIDs in Reading; prior to which he had a successful 27 year career in retail.

Eve joined Totally Truro in June 2010 as Marketing & Communications Officer. Eve looks after the enjoytruro website; updating it regularly with all the news and events happening in and around Truro, organises events throughout the year as well as promoting Truro through marketing materials and PR. Prior to taking up her positon in Truro, Eve held the same postion in Plymouth for the Business Improvement District, before that she worked for an independent retailer for 12 years.

The Totally Truro office is based on Fairmantle Street, meaning staff are at the heart of the city centre and best placed to support BID members.
