Totally Truro is responsible for five projects to improve the city
Investment: £202,000 between 2007 and 2012
Marketing activities and projects which celebrate what's unique and exciting about Truro. Major projects so far include the enjoytruro.co.uk website plus public relations campaigns surrounding key events such as Music Truro and the Christmas Festival.
Project Two: Events
Investment: £425,000 between 2007 and 2012
An annual co-ordinated programme of events, expertly managed and promoted to encourage residents, visitors and workers to make the most of Truro.
Truro's BID got off to a spectacular start with the delivery of a brand new festive lighting scheme for Christmas 2007. This scheme will be further expanded each year. in September 2008, the city's first week-long music festival, Music Truro, took place with more than 70 events at venues across the city.
Totally Truro also promises a spectacular Christmas festival with a beautiful lights display and switch on, festive markets and entertainment to bring shoppers to Truro.
Project Three: Safer City
Investment: £160,000 between 2010 and 2012
Thankfully, crime is not considered a big issue for Truro but we still hope to do our bit to ensure everyone feels safe.
New lighting will be installed adding to what is already provided by local authorities to enhance Truro's opeways and subways and promote key features.
Project Four: Attractive City
Investment: £120,000 between 2008 and 2012
Truro needs to looks its best for its workers, visitors and residents. The Attractive City project provides funding for additional planting and floral displays plus improvements to access routes to entice people into Truro. In 2007, over 200 additional floral displays were installed across the city.
Project Five: Accessible City
Investment: £127,000 between 2007 and 2012
Truro now has a fantastic shopmobility scheme - Go Truro!- the scheme enables all to enjoy our city and its primary funding comes from the BID.
There is also funding to improve signage to help visitors get out and about and explore parts of the city they may otherwise miss.
Totally Truro - the story so far
Timeline of Truro's BID development
A total of 90 business leaders from Truro gathered to hear a presentation about how a BID could benefit the city, giving Totally Truro a mandate to develop the proposals.
April 2006:
A survey was carried out with over 700 businesses to identify priorities for improving Truro. A total of 177 organisations responded, representing a 25 % response rate.
October 2006:
Results of the consultation are published in the form of a Totally Truro newsletter. The decision was taken to exempt businesses with a rateable value of less than £10,000 paying into the BID.
November 2006:
Focus groups where 35 people helped develop and prioritise specific projects within key themes.
February 2007:
Street meetings were held to inform all potential levy paying businesses about the proposals. Totally Truro engaged with more than 200 businesses in two days.
June 2007
The ballot launches, invited all 417 businesses eligible to pay into the BID to vote for or against the proposals. Turnout was 51 % and a majority of 71% were in favour of forming a Business Improvement District. Totally Truro BID was formed.
October 2007
The BID became operational and commenced the delivery of its new projects. BID Manager Neil Scott takes up his post with Totally Truro.
November/December 2007
Totally Truro funded the city's Winter Festival, including a brand new Christmas lights display and switch on event.
June 2008
Go Truro! Shopmobility scheme launched, with Totally Truro acting as a key funder. A range of manual wheelchairs, powerchairs and electric scooters are available to hire from Go Truro!'s base at Moorfield car park.
Totally Truro provided for over 200 new floral displays across the city, making it more attractive for visitors, customers and residents. Totally Truro has also actively supported the first Cornwall Boat Show, the BBC Blast roadshow, the Cornwall Food and Drink Festival and a continental market.
September 2008
Music Truro, a week-long music festival featuring 80 scheduled events takes place between September 20 and 27.
