The Quay was as Active as Ever!
The blood was certainly pumping as another Be Active Truro drew huge crowds to the city’s annual sports festival.
Organisers of the event; Truro City Council, Totally Truro, Cornwall Sports Partnership and Event Cornwall created a six day event schedule packed with a huge variety of free sport demos, workshops and come and try sessions to help support more people of all abilities in getting the recommended 30 minutes of activity, five days a week to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
Natasha Howard, from Cornwall Sports Partnership, said: "Taking up a new sport or activity can be daunting so this festival offered the ideal opportunity for people to ‘have a go' in a fun relaxed environment with family and friends. "
"Our aim was to raise the profile of where people can access activities they are interested in and to inspire them to try something new using the Get Active Cornwall website as a starting point to find out what is available in their area."
Andrea Smith, event coordinator at Event Cornwall said: "Monday was a wash out due to the poor weather conditions but the rest of the week was great, all of the activities on offer were in use all day"
With over 80 events in the line-up, this year's festival offered the largest variety of sports on offer yet.
Tuesday was Dance Day where local dance troops showcased and battled it out while West Coast Cheer put on a stunt show and free workshops.
Wednesday was Healthy Heart Day where local health providers offered information on; sport therapy, healthy heart checks, Sun Safe Cornwall and a BMI and lung capacity tests. Truro Farmers Market also worked with the Healthy Workplace initiative to promote a healthy work-life balance.
Thursday welcomed the return of the ever popular climbing wall as well as a golf simulator while Friday was by far the most dramatic day of the week with an inspiring display of technique and skill by Andrei Burton Events - the UK's leading bike stunt team.
They were also joined by Mount Hawke Skate Park offering local enthusiasts a chance to learn from the pros.
Friday also included the annual ‘Business Sports Day' event, where teams of four from businesses Truro partook in an old school sports day competition complete with the three legged and egg and spoon race!
The festival culminated on Saturday with The Cornwall Sports Partnership team offering netball, basketball, cricket, badminton, crazy catch and inflatable sports activities.
Neil Scott, BID Manager for Totally Truro said; "This is the third year we have run the Be Active Truro festival, it is such a popular event in the Truro calendar and great to see so much free activity on the quay"
The festival will return to Lemon Quay, Truro again this August (2014).
